a Panoply of Design

As part of the Alphabet Superset, I designed 26 posters over the course of 8 months. The goal was to be creative more regularly by designing a piece every week, as well as fine-tuning my process. I compiled the results in a digital zine entitled a Panoply of Design, available for free.

Type specimen

In my monthly newsletter News from the Grid, I regularly present 4 typefaces available for free for commercial use based on a theme. It gives me an opportunity to curate fonts based on a specific direction but also to help aspiring designers. The ones shown here are a selection of my favourite specimens I made, but more can be found in past issues.

Song posters

This series is a way to pay homage to the songs that have been stuck in my head since the first time I listened to them. Each poster is meant to reflect the mood of the song, or at least the one I perceive. It’s an ongoing series and will be expanded as soon as I’m struck with a new obsession.

Gradient series

These designs were born out of a desire to experiment with colours and abstract shapes. I have grown very fond of the technique and will keep toying with it in the future.

Tokyo districts

This short series was made to practice designing for tourism. The idea was that these posters could be placed in airports, train and metro stations to help tourists learn more about the many districts of Tokyo by using the traditional seals of the city and its districts.

"Dance of Death" flyers

After stumbling upon the original engravings in a public domain collection and learning about the “Dance of Death” I felt they would be perfect for a series of designs in the style of old grungy flyers for metal concerts. It ended up being more of a humorous riff on the source material, but the process of designing digitally, printing and scanning gave great results which perfectly matched what I was going for.
